Sally Barratt-Boyes
Council MemberSally holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in singing performance from Victoria University and recently completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Music Teaching (PGDipMusTch) from the New Zealand School of Music and graduated with Distinction. She has studied in London and more recently, in Milan with Maestro Vincenzo Manno. Sally has worked as a musical director, and a choral soloist, and has undertaken roles in opera both in London and Wellington as well as roles in professional music theatre. She has also worked as a vocal backing singer for documentaries and short New Zealand films and has enjoyed forays into the film acting world as an extra on movies such as King Kong and Avatar, and the New Zealand television series, Bread and Roses.
Sally has taught singing privately, both individuals and groups, children and adults, for 20 years. For nearly six years Sally taught singing to the actors at Toi Whakaari:New Zealand Drama School where she emphasised the importance of accessing the whole voice in order to tell the story of a song with naturalness and freedom.
