More Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Hormones and the Voice

From puberty to gender affirming hormone therapy to menopause, hormones affect the voice throughout the course of a human life. But how exactly? Dr Romano will walk us through the colourful story of how the voice reacts in those pivotal moments of our lives. 

Mezzo-soprano Dr. Tessa Romano (they/them) is Senior Lecturer in voice at Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka, the University of Otago. They have held opera fellowships at Aspen Opera Center and CU New Opera Workshop, and performed with the Syracuse Symphony, the Dunedin Symphony Orchestra, the Hartford Symphony, the American Handel Society, Boulder Opera, and Opera Otago, among others. Romano holds a DMA in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado Boulder, a MM in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan, and an AB in Italian and Music from Princeton University.
