Tikanga in the Studio - Hinekoia Tomlinson

Hinekoia Tomlinson (Ngāti Hine, Whakatōhea, Te Patuwai) is a vocal coach, performer, and founder of Waiata Mai Vocal Coaching. With over 20 years’ experience in voice and performance, she blends vocal science with te ao Māori to create warm, supportive spaces where people can grow their skills, build confidence, and connect with te reo Māori through waiata.

Hinekoia works with schools, organisations, community groups, and kapa haka rōpū across Aotearoa, supporting performers to develop strong, healthy, expressive voices. She is also one of only four Estill Master Trainers in Aotearoa, bringing a science-based approach to voice that supports kapa haka, singing, public speaking and beyond.

Her workshops are grounded in aroha, practical technique, and the belief that every person already carries a powerful voice within them.
